movie crush: Planet of the Apes

Algumas coisas que eu adoro no filme Planeta dos Macacos:
(Planet of the Apes, 1968, dirigido por Franklin J. Schaffner)

· As luzes brilhantes e fluorescentes que flutuam no espaço.

· Os belos uniformes vintage dos astronautas.

· A risada louca de Charlton Heston (depois de ver seu companheiro astronauta colocando uma bandeira americana no “planeta desconhecido”).

· Nenhum macaco foi gerado por computadores! O filme contou com uma equipe de mais de 80 maquiadores.

· A vila dos macacos foi inspirada no trabalho do lendário arquiteto espanhol Antoni Gaudí.

· “Take your stinking paws off me, you damned dirty ape.“

A few things I love about the movie Planet of the Apes:
(1968, directed by Franklin J. Schaffner)

· The glowing fluorescent lights that float around in space.

· The astronauts beautiful vintage uniforms.

· Charlton Heston’s crazy laugh (after seeing his fellow astronaut setting up a tiny American flag into the “unknown planet”).

· No computer-generated monkeys! The film had a team of over 80 makeup artists.

· The apes’ village was modeled on the work of legendary spanish architect Antoni Gaudí.

· “Take your stinking paws off me, you damned dirty ape.“

The Hand Written Letter Project

Nos últimos tempos tenho me interessado cada vez mais por correspondências “reais”, em comparação com as virtuais. Acho admirável quem dedica uma pequena (ou grande) parte do  dia para cultivar um relação mais pessoal – e personalizada – com as pessoas que ama. E, somado a isso, ainda existe aquele meu amor declarado ao papel, que me faz acumular alguns quilos de artigos de papelaria a cada ano. Por tudo isso, me encantei com esse projeto do designer Craig Oldham, transformado em livro: The Hand Written Letter Project (ou O Projeto de Cartas Manuscritas).

Lately I’ve been increasingly interested in “real” mail exchanges, compared with the virtual ones. I find admirable that people can dedicate a small (or large) part of their day to cultivate a more personal – and personalized – relationship with their loved ones. And on top of that, there’s my love affair with paper, which makes me buy lots of stationery each year. For all that, I was really charmed by this project created by designer Craig Oldham, that turned into a book: The Hand Written Letter Project.

Craig convidou designers e outros pensadores criativos a escreverem cartas manuscritas e depois reuniu toda essa correspondência no livro. Adoro e concordo plenamente com o que ele fala sobre o ato de receber cartas:

“É sempre bom receber uma carta, especialmente nestes dias em que o e-mail, as atualizações de status e os tweets dominam a nossa comunicação, fazendo com que muitos percam de vista as coisas que estiveram ao nosso redor há tempos (como tinta e papel).”

Craig invited designers and creative thinkers alike to simply write handwritten letters and then gathered all the correspondence in the book. I love and fully agree with what he says about the act of receiving letters:

“There is always something nice about receiving a letter, especially these days when email, text, status updates and tweets dominate our communication, leaving many to lose sight of the things that have been around for a while (like
ink and paper).”
