Algumas coisas que eu adoro no filme Planeta dos Macacos:
(Planet of the Apes, 1968, dirigido por Franklin J. Schaffner)
· As luzes brilhantes e fluorescentes que flutuam no espaço.
· Os belos uniformes vintage dos astronautas.
· A risada louca de Charlton Heston (depois de ver seu companheiro astronauta colocando uma bandeira americana no “planeta desconhecido”).
· Nenhum macaco foi gerado por computadores! O filme contou com uma equipe de mais de 80 maquiadores.
· A vila dos macacos foi inspirada no trabalho do lendário arquiteto espanhol Antoni Gaudí.
· “Take your stinking paws off me, you damned dirty ape.“

A few things I love about the movie Planet of the Apes:
(1968, directed by Franklin J. Schaffner)
· The glowing fluorescent lights that float around in space.
· The astronauts beautiful vintage uniforms.
· Charlton Heston’s crazy laugh (after seeing his fellow astronaut setting up a tiny American flag into the “unknown planet”).
· No computer-generated monkeys! The film had a team of over 80 makeup artists.
· The apes’ village was modeled on the work of legendary spanish architect Antoni Gaudí.
· “Take your stinking paws off me, you damned dirty ape.“
Acho que todo mundo já assistiu Psicose (1960), pelo menos uma vez na vida. Se não assistiu, deveria. Clássico dos clássicos de Alfred Hitchcock com uma das trilhas sonoras mais incríveis da história do cinema (obrigada Bernard Herrmann!), o filme tem uma fotografia p&b belíssima. Tão bela quanto Janet Leigh, que interpreta a mocinha que se hospeda no Bates Motel depois de roubar U$40.000 do seu chefe. Imperdível.

I believe everyone has watched Psycho (1960) at least once. If not, they really should. A classic among Alfred Hitchcock‘s classics, with one of the most amazing soundtracks of all times (thank you Bernard Herrmann!), the movie has a beautiful b&w photography. As beautiful as Janet Leigh, who plays the girl who stays in the Bates Motel after stealing $40,000 from her boss. A must see.

Vanity Fair‘s Hollywood Portfolio paid homage to Hitchcock in 2008, recreating classic scenes from his films using actors and actresses from today. Marion Cotillard was chosen to revive the classic and terrifying shower scene from Psycho. Pretty amazing, don’t you think? Check out the other scenes in the magazine’s slideshow.

Kamome Diner conta a história de Sachie, uma japonesa que abre um café em Hensinki. Dirigido por Naoko Ogigami em 2006, esse foi o primeiro filme japonês totalmente filmado na Finlândia. Não sei se é porque eu sempre tive vontade de abrir um café, mas me apaixonei de cara pelo filme, pela Sachie, pelo seu café, pela Finlândia… Lindo filme!

Kamome Diner tells the story of Sachie, a Japanese woman who opens a diner in Hensinki. Directed by Naoko Ogigami in 2006, this was the first Japanese movie filmed entirely in Finland. I don’t know if it’s because I’ve always wanted to open a café, but I fell in love with the movie, with Sachie, with her diner, with Finland… Beautiful movie!
Sempre achei que o livro Bonequinha de Luxo e a sua adaptação para o cinema eram duas obras de arte completamente diferentes e, em algum nível, até opostas. O livro de Truman Capote é deliciosamente imoral, às vezes cruel e tem um final de partir o coração de tristeza. Já o filme é romântico, um pouco careta e tem aquele típico final feliz de Hollywood. Leio o livro imaginando Marilyn Monroe, a atriz que Capote realmente desejava ver interpretando Holly Golightly, mas entendo que Audrey Hepburn se encaixou perfeitamente nessa Holly imaginada por Hollywood. Cada obra – o livro e o filme – tem sua beleza individual. Mas são, definitivamente, duas obras distintas.

I always thought that the book Breakfast at Tiffany’s and its film adaptation were two completely different works of art and, at some level, even opposite. Truman Capote’s book is deliciously immoral, sometimes cruel and has a heartbreaking ending. The movie is romantic, a bit conservative and has the typical Hollywood happy ending. I read the book imagining Marilyn Monroe, the actress who Capote really wanted to see playing Holly Golightly, but I understand that Audrey Hepburn fits perfectly the Holly imagined by Hollywood. Each one – the book and film – has its individual beauty. But they are definitely two distinct works.
Gosto dessa cena, em que Holly canta e toca violão na janela de seu apartamento. A música, Moon River, de Henry Mancini e Johnny Mercer, foi composta já levando em consideração a capacidade vocal limitada de Hepburn. Reza a lenda que um executivo da Paramount odiou a música e queria tirá-la do filme a todo custo. Audrey teria respondido à sugestão dizendo: “Por cima do meu cadáver!“. Moon River acabou levando o Oscar de melhor canção original em 1961.

I like this scene in which Holly sings and plays the guitar on the fire escape outside her apartment window. The song Moon River, by Henry Mancini and Johnny Mercer, was tailored to Hepburn’s limited vocal range. Rumor has it that a Paramount executive hated the song and wanted to take it out of the movie at all costs. Audrey replied to the suggestion by saying: “Over my dead body!“. Moon River ended up winning the Oscar for best original song in 1961.

Atuações fantásticas, cenas impressionantemente belas, referências a nouvelle vague, trilha sonora maravilhosa… Se você ama qualquer uma dessas coisas, deveria parar o que está fazendo agora e assistir esse filme. Submarine (2010) foi dirigido por Richard Ayoade (adoro ele em I.T. Crowd) e a belíssima trilha sonora foi criada por Alex Turner, do Artic Monkeys.

Fantastic performances, amazing cinematic beauty, nouvelle vague references, superb soundtrack… If you love any of those things you should stop what you’re doing right now and watch this movie. Submarine (2010) was directed by Richard Ayoade (love him in I.T. Crowd) and the beautiful soundtrack was created by Alex Turner, from The Artic Monkeys.
Na verdade, eu recomendo que você leia o romance de Joe Dunthorne primeiro. É incrivelmente cativante e doce. Combina muito bem com uma xícara de chá de limão e um cupcake. ; )

Actually, I recommend that you read Joe Dunthorne‘s novel first. It’s unbelievably engaging and sweet. It goes really well with a cup of lemon tea and a cupcake. ; )
Digitalized é a coleção da designer Alba Prat, inspirada no filme cult Tron (1982, dirigido por Steven Lisberger). Adoro os padrões em cubo e a vibe andrógina. Muito bonito!

Um dia desses eu esbarrei nesse vídeo-fofura da Isabelle Adjani ainda adolescente, num casting para o filme Le Sauveur. Adorável! Ela não conseguiu o papel, mas acabou se tornando uma das atrizes francesas mais bem sucedidas (e lindas).

One of these days i came across this sweet video of a teen Isabelle Adjani, in a casting for the movie Le Sauveur. So adorable! She didn’t get the part, but later became one of the most successfull (and beautiful) french actresses.
